PERSONALITY
Sootstripe has always been a gentle she-cat, so it was no surprise to anyone when little Sootpaw decided to take the path of a medicine cat. Kind hearted and a bit of a bleeding heart, Sootstripe has a fondness for all cats. Even if the cat were from a different clan the young she-cat would aide them if needed.
Sootstripe loves hunting, and has always excelled in that department. Whether its hunting for prey or hunting for herbs, the young medicine cat has a keen eye for the hidden secrets of her cliffs. She can jump impeccably high, giving her an advantage when it comes to airborne prey.
Generally Sootstripe is fairly level headed, and able to deflect irritations and annoyances quite easily. However if you do manage to step on her paws, be prepared to hear an earful. The new medicine cat can have a fiery personality, and a sharp tongue to match. Sometimes her well natured sarcasm can come across a little rough around the edges, although she would never mean to hurt someone's feelings. Being a medicine cat, as well as her apprentice days had left her with a little less patient for nonsense.
HISTORY
Sootstripe's history is shrouded in secrecy. It is well known that she was not born within StoneClan; however a patrol found her in StoneClan territory when she was still a squealing kit. Her eyes weren't even open yet. Because of this, the young medicine cat has next to no recollection of her life before StoneClan. She sometimes dreams about the noises she had picked up, but nothing more.
When Sootstripe was brought back to the StoneClan camp and brought before the Leader prior to Amberstar, Whitestar, the wise tom took pity on the little kit and arranged for a Queen to take her in. He noted the ashy patches on her pelt and deemed her Sootkit. She grew quickly, and before long her eyes opened. Her pretty gaze was always something she was complemented for; the unusual, odd colored pupils were captivating. Before anyone knew it, the little she-cat was six moons old.
Sootkit became Sootpaw, and it became noticeable very quickly that the petite she-cat was different than the other apprentices. Sootstripe was gentle hearted and kind, and found play fighting unpleasant. The little she-cat avoided the other apprentices, attempting to avoid the fray.
Her mentor Crookedear began to worry about his apprentice. She excelled in many things; she was very intelligent and learned very quickly. But she struggled severely with the concept of fighting, and the burly mentor feared that his little apprentice would not survive or be able to protect the Clan when the day came. He waited in hopes that she would improve, but it was clear that the little she-cat had no interest in fighting. Crookedear spoke to the leader in private to address his concerns. The Leader was passive towards the issue, and brushed it off as clumsy apprentices. Crookedear left the Leader's den, defeated.
A moon later, Sootpaw was out practicing with Crookedear, who was trying to teach her for the millionth time how to properly tackle. She had no idea they were going to run into a badger.
The large creature caught them both by surprise, and Crookedear shoved Sootpaw back before falling into a defensive stance. The badger lashed out, grabbing onto her mentor before he shouted at Sootpaw to run. The little she-cat's easiest path back to camp was blocked, so she ran deeper into StoneClan territory in fear. She spent the entire night outside of camp, trembling in shock and fear.
As the sun began to rise, the little she-cat crept from her hiding place and cautiously headed back the way she came, trying to pick up her mentors scent. As she came back to the rocky clearing she had fled from, she came upon a horrible sight; Crookedear was laying lifeless on the ground, covered in bloody wounds.
The little she-cat fled again, crying as she climbed blindly up the Cliffside to the StoneClan camp. Her hind leg slipped, and she twisted it in the process. She slipped past the waterfall and collapsed, sobbing as her Clan mates descended upon her in a flurry of questions and concern.
She was moved to the Medicine Cat's den where she was forced to tell her Leader everything. The wise tom gave his condolences to the little apprentice before sending out a patrol to retrieve Crookedear's body for burial. Sootpaw didn't sleep at all that day, despite her Medicine Cat Bramblefang's orders. The night was no better.
As sunrises went by, Sootpaw's foot began to heal nicely. The little apprentice was troubled; she had nightmares at night and blamed herself for her mentors death, although she didn't openly speak of it. She spent plenty of time with Bramblefang, and the Medicine Cat began to notice Sootpaw's intelligence. The little she-cat was well versed in knowledge; she knew many of the basic Medicine Cat herbs and had a lot of bright ideas. It wasn't long before the kind tom went to speak with Whitestar, and expressed interest in taking her on as his apprentice. Bramblefang was aging, and would need to have a sucessor. Whitestar happily agreed.
When presented with the opportunity to be a Medicine Cat Apprentice, Sootpaw was thrilled. She had been presented with the opportunity to help her Clan mates, and possibly prevent more cats from dying. She dedicated her life to helping others, always thinking about Crookedear as she worked.
At sixteen moons, Sootpaw became Sootstripe and became recognized by StarClan as the Medicine Cat of StoneClan. Bramblefang was relieved from duty, and spent the rest of his days with the comforts of a respected Elder.
The day that Bramblefang passed away was a devastating blow to Sootstripe. The young Medicine Cat had grown very close to the eldery tom in her time of recovery and apprentice hood. His passing broke her heart, but to this day she still sees him in her prophetic dreams.
Sootstripe now serves her Clan as the only Medicine Cat, taking great pride in her duties. Her soft and gentle personality makes her likable by the other Medicine Cat's, and she even finds friends within the other Clans.
