The sunlight danced pleasantly across the calm riverbend as a small cat broke through the shrubbery line. He walked softly and confidently to the river's edge, pausing to glance at the water that touched his toes. The little cat moved almost silently, carefully stepping onto the water-soaked boulders that peaked above the river's surface. Rabbitpaw had found the best hunting spot; however he was not inclined to share his knowledge. Although he was a friendly, social cat, he wasn't a fool. If he went blabbing to the other apprentices about the best hunting spot ever, they'd be all over his secret spot and it wouldn't be as good anymore. No, it was best to keep the sweetest things silent.
Rabbitpaw settled back on his haunches, allowing his yellow eyes to scan the riverbed carefully. He had brought in a lot of prey over the last couple days; and it had all come from this very spot. The young apprentice grinned softly as a plump salmon swam lazily past his boulder. He shot a paw out and scooped the helpless fish from it's safe place, flinging it onto the dirt by the shore. The little tom sped across the slippery rocks enthusiastically, leaping onto the wriggling salmon and biting its neck. The tricky fish fell lifeless in his jaws.
Rabbitpaw dug a large pit, making sure it was big enough to hold a bunch of fresh kill. He would need to come back; there would be no way to carry all of it in one load. He dropped his prize into the pit and covered it gently with loose dirt, immediately reassuming his position on the river boulder. It wasn't long until he saw a Lobster nestled at the bottom of the river. Rabbitpaw dove into the water, snatching up his prey cautiously by the neck. He knew lobsters were dangerous; they were delicious, but if they caught you in their grip it really hurt. He had taken several trips to the medicine cat for lobster and crab pinches already, and he was still fairly young.
Rabbitpaw slipped free of the water, dropping his lobster onto his pile and covering it a bit before dragging his rough pink tongue over his tabby pelt roughly, licking the water from his fur.
